Five Minute Weekend
Here's my weekend in a five minute nutshell....
Left Minneapolis about 7:30am Friday morning, arrived in Chicago at 2:30pm.
Met up with Megan on Southport for some coffee, chatting and shopping. (Megan was in town from Michigan and after some calculations we realized this was our fourth time seeing each other since we both left Chicago which was June of 2002...WOW!!! Two of my visits to Michigan, one visit to Greece and now this visit to Chicago...anyone else thinking what I'm thinking??? Megan is due a visit to Minnesota! Absolutely lovely to see you dear.)
Had dinner with Chris and Abbie (the newly engaged couple) at RJ Grunts in Lincoln Park.
Spent the night at Abbie's.
Saturday morning Julie arrived with coffee in hand for our busy day of dress shopping.
Met up with Abbie's mom and friend Rachel.
Our first stop and appointment was at Davids Bridal
Lovely service and very nice time having Abbie trying on gowns. (No worries, the gown Abbie will wear for the wedding isn't shown)
Then Julie and I modeled a few bridesmaid dresses.
We stopped for a quick lunch at Portillos.
Followed by stop/appointment number two...The infamous House of Brides.
Not thrilled with the service (could easily be called House of Horrors based on that alone, and I know at least one who'd agree)but loved the selection...some of the prices were a little over the top though.
Fun to watch Abbie try on dresses.
And again Julie and I modeled a few bridesmaid options. (Julie did I tell you how fun it was to see you and hang out Saturday? It was great. Thanks!)
(Those white things on my back are clips holding the dress on and up. At this shop the dresses all come in one size for trying on, which made for interesting trying on with lots of clips involved to avoid dresses falling off.)After the dress shopping excitement we relaxed for awhile before heading to Melissa and Steven's apartment for some dinner with Megan, Chris and Abbie. (Melissa and I went to North Park together, though didn't spend much time together there for whatever reason. Her and Steven are wonderful hosts and so kind. It was especially fun to meet Steven and I think that him and my husband would really hit it off, I think their hearts are alike in more way than one. Thank you both again!)
Great dinner, great company. Was an absolute blast.
About 9:30pm after Abbie and Chris headed out. (Thank you both for a wonderful weekend. Friday evening was so fun chatting with you about wedding stuff and dress shopping was great! Can't wait to see you both again soon)
Megan, Melissa and I decided to venture downtown to the Signature Lounge atop the Hancock Building for some overpriced martinis.
I had the Chicago Martini and it was very good!
We had a fabulous time overlooking the city and catching up.After a very short nights sleep at Melissa's (due to #1 being out late, and #2 daylight savings time) I got up and said my goodbyes to Megan and Melissa.
Then I went and met Anne for some coffee at Western. (Anne,Our time together was much to short but it was great to catch up and at least see each other a bit. Thanks for making it work!)

Then I hit the road for a long drive home.
And promptly tried on my own wedding dress to reminisce three years ago
...and J and the kids loved it! (especially M)I'm also proud to say the dress fit even better than when I wore it for my wedding. :)
Though I'd love to say more...it's back to life around here.

samara, it was so great seeing you this weekend and getting to know you better in person now that blogville has brought us together. :) i hope your drive home was smooth and that you're settling back into daily life. you and jeff are welcome at our "b&b" ANYtime you're in the area! btw - would you be willing to e-mail me those 2 pictures from our night out?
what a fun weekend! you and julie tried on a dress that melissa and my other girls tried on, only in purple! we ended up with a different dress, but i love that one, too!
house of horrors, indeed. i have never been so annoyed by the planning process as i was during my interactions with the women at that place. so unfortunate. i hope, based on the service alone, that abbie was able to find a dress she liked at david's. they are STARS.
love the pic of you in your dress -- so pretty!
have you been in touch with sarah p-j?
hmmmm...I would love a visit to Minnesota, but only if you'll greet me at the airport in your dress! just kidding, but it was fabulous seeing you and spending some time together. sorry i laughed when i saw you...just couldn't believe we were actually together :) glad you had a great weekend...
samara, it was so great to see you...i'm so glad you could be here for my dress shopping! you were such a great sport to try on dresses...especially ones that didn't fit! and i'm glad i inspired you to try on your wedding dress again! what a beautiful bride you were!
ann-marie: the good news is i did decide on a dress from david's and NOT H.O.H!

I am so sorry that I couldn't be there. It would have been great to see you. Thanks for calling on Sunday. I miss you.

samara, good to hear you had a great action-packed weekend. perhaps the next time you're in town you might be able to pencil in a date with your muppet twin? (i knew you were coming into town this weekend, but was out of town myself)
Jeff! What happened? I was excited to read your first blog post! It would have inspired me to start writing on abbie's.
abbie and i did enjoy our time with samara though. See you guys later.
